Artist's Bio

Armada will never forget it. Ms. Leo's first grade class. She drew a sketch, which seemed magical to her, and Ms. Leo agreed. That was the moment Armada became an artist. It marked the beginning of a lifelong journey - the inception of her love affair with the visual arts.

Since that day so many years ago, Armada has worked tirelessly to hone her skills as an artist. As an adolescent, she was fortunate to go to a high school that specialized in fine arts where she took sculpture, painting, photography, welding and art history classes. This unique opportunity fostered her growth, not only as an artist but as a human being. The years she spent in high school continued to enthusiastically encourage her in the direction of her aspirations. During senior year, she traveled to France with her teachers and peers. The visit to Monet's gardens, where he painted his epic masterful water lilies, sealing the deal. Being in his gardens

overlooking the pond, his paintings took on a life of their own for her.

Mercedes Armada has been a visual artist since the age of five. She earned her Associate's Degree in Studio Art from The Fashion Institute of Technology and received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Art History from Hunter College in 2003. The trip to Monet's home and gardens on the outskirts of Paris during the spring of 1995, affirmed her calling to the craft. Although she specializes in oil painting, she has worked in several mediums such as printmaking, sculpture and photography. She dreams of sharing her artwork with people all around the world.

While living in New York City, Mercedes worked at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Garth Clark Gallery to gain insight into the business side of the art industry. She has exhibited her work in Madrid and NYC. Armada is currently working on a series for a solo show at The Spanish Benevolent Society in Manhattan in October of 2026. She continues to develop and expand her artistic abilities by transmuting her real life experiences onto canvas through color, depth and form.
